Duration and Focus

The modules are offered over 6 - 12 year, 5 days a month. They focus on:

  • Safety,
  • Quality assurance,
  • Soft drinks production, by operating,
  • Controlling and maintaining an automated soft drinks processing plant

The elective components of this qualification allows learners to gain specialist knowledge, skills and insight into the areas of raw material intake and storage, operating a mixing and blending plant, determining food quality using sensory equipment, identifying computerised systems in a manufacturing environment and  reading and adjusting instruments in production or packaging equipment.


At the end of this Learnership, learners are able to:

Demonstrate and understanding of occupational health, safety and HACCP.
  • Operate a raw material intake and storage plant and process.
  • Apply microbiological principles & monitor & control quality assurance in a food environment
  • Operate a beverage blending & mixing plant & process
  • Demonstrate an understanding of heating and cooling procedures
  • Perform first line maintenance
  • Produce and use spreadsheets for business
  • Determine the quality of food products using sensory equipment
  • Identify computerised systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Read and adjust instruments on production or packaging equipment
