Pranesh Sookhai, Masonite's Education and Training Development Centre's Assistant Manager, stands proudly before his extremely neatly organised Learner Portfolio Filing system. At the end of the Wood Processing Level 1 and Level 3 Learnership Programme each Learner File will contain an updated Index reflecting filed orientation documents and Modules 1 to 7 of Assessed OWN WORK booklets, Facilitator Assessment Guides and Workplace Assessment Guides - about 1 672 documents!! (+- 4 560 pages!!) The learnership is a repeat of learnerships for about 150 learners each year, completed in Year 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Although the 2005 – 2010 learnerships were successful, we continue to improve the quality of the learnership as a whole, through the review process. Training manuals have been improved accordingly by our dedicated Material Developer taking into account both facilitator and Moderator/Verifier reports. This includes an update of current affairs, as well as more realistic illustrations and a better layout of the material. Two facilitators have been, once again, used this year- Todd Clark facilitating 2 groups of WPP L1 and 1 group of WPP L3 and Matthew Mackay 3 groups of WPP L1. Todd Clark has successfully facilitated Year 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 groups and Matthew Mackay Year 2010. As in the past, the learners were all selected after completing numeracy and literacy assessments arranged by Masonite and supervised by the Department of Labour. The learners selected seem to have a high level of ability. The standard of entry learners’ competencies has steadily increased over the years. Learners have settled in very well and are generally performing well in training. They have shown commitment and dedication to the learning process and are already developing a strong learning culture. So far, this year, their attendance and time-keeping has been of a high standard. Facilitators have remarked on the fact that several of the learners are already emerging as leaders in the groups and are producing exceptional work.
There is active participation by all learners during the learning sessions. They all seem to be keen to make use of every activity to practice their newly acquired skills. Both the facilitators remarked on sound learners’ morale, confidence and participation during these first three modules. There is mutual keen anticipation and enjoyment of the learning – both from the facilitators and the learners. Coaches/mentors have, as usual, made a concerted effort to complete Workplace Assessments. Mrs Asha Naidoo, Masonite's Education and Training Development Centre Manager, is to be complimented on driving the Learnership programme. All learners respect her and her Centre runs like clockwork. It is extremely well resourced (TV's, White Boards, Flip Charts, beautiful tables and chairs, spotless, air conditioned training rooms, dining room and ablution facilities) and Learners are made to feel at home. Dionysus is proud to partner with MASONITE on this fantastic annual intervention. Programme Manager Please see our gallery for more pictures.
