Dionysus Golf Challenge

Dionysus Golf Challenge at ASTD Conference

At the recent ASTD Conference the Dionysus team did a little team building on the day of their arrival. The team building consisted of a competitive round of putt-putt. This is a relaxing and fun way to spend an afternoon after several hours of travelling.
We were outside in the fresh clean Drakensberg air. No recycled air from office air conditioners, no walls to hold us in, chairs keeping us in one place, eyes locked on computer screens. No this was a refreshing break from our usual work habits. We were outside, seeing the mountains, the cloudy sky, which being overcast, later threatened to shower us with big drops of rain. We exercised muscles usually left dormant from sitting in a chair looking at a screen. We used different thought processes to solve the puzzles of getting the balls into the holes with as few shots as possible, this despite the many obstacles placed in the path of the inspiring ‘hole-in-one’, sought after by the more experienced players.

The Dionysus staff members were split into teams of three, two guys and a girl, mixed triples. This form of golf was indeed a challenge for some team members who had never played putt-putt before. Apprehension before the start was quickly overcome by a little instruction and just as quickly forgotten as the first hole became the second. Then it was just concentration as competition and laughter took over.

There was lots of camaraderie which was facilitated by a shortage of pens. Team members were encouraged to approach other teams for the use of pens. As we work out of different offices at different venues, this was important for getting staff re-acquainted with each other.

At the end of the course of eighteen holes scores were tallied and one team stood victorious, the Dionysus Team!
